OWM - Penne, Salami, and Tomatoes

Happy Sunday! Nothing beats a home-cooked pasta on Friday nights. Simmering fresh tomatoes sauteed in olive oil, and butter. A little sugar. A good grinding of fresh pepper, a dash of oregano, paprika, and basil.

Here's what I made for weekend supper-- penne in fresh tomato sauce and parmesan coated German salami.

OWM - Cultural Display

Iftar (or breaking the fast with a sumptuous buffet) and cultural displays are among the most exciting things you look forward in the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan tents offering free henna tattoo, dates and coffee, incense, and photography exhibit of United Arab Emirates documenting their progress, are among the most common displays we have seen. But this surprised as while doing our weekly grocery in one of the popular shopping malls.

It looked so real I just had to take a picture :)

OWM - Beat the heat!

Work hours here in the Middles East is shortened due to the holy month of Ramadan. That gives us time at night to go for a walk around the neighborhood. July and August are the hottest months in Dubai and we could not resist the famous desert from a popular Filipino food chain.

Good morning, fellow weekenders! We have a sandstormy weekend over here so the family just went guitar shopping near the fish roundabout in Deira. Hubby was asked to be among the performers on their club's upcoming social charity event.

Hubby used to own a Fender acoustic back in Saudi so he wanted to try another guitar. Most of his friends are strumming Yamaha so he settled for the German based Hofner. I share with you this lovely addition to the family :)

Good morning fellow weekenders! Last night was fun for the family as we got to watch Elmo and the Gang at Burjuman Mall. The show, called Imagine with Elmo, is part of the 2009 Dubai Summer Surprises. People who attended the event also had the chance to meet and greet the furry friends and were given discount coupons from Virgin Megastore.

Hello fellow weekenders! We had a great Saturday night as the family attended the annual Junior Chef Middle East Competition. I share with you their finished creations on display at Oasis Center, Sheikh Zayed Road. Hubby and I took plenty of photos so I decided to present it in collage.

A big warm hello to my fellow weekenders! We were at Dubai Festival City over the weekend and we passed by this Robotics Workshop. This is part of the government's program to keep kids busy while school has not yet started.

Weekend Snapshot # 52 - Subway Delight

There is never a weekend when our family does not visit a Subway stall. It is served fast, inexpensive, and healthy.

What is your favorite Subway sandwich? And how do you like it prepared? Veggie delight on a wheat bread? Spicy Italian with extra tomatoes? Meatball Marinara with extra cheese? Tuna in toasted honey oats bread? Share it with us today.

Here is my Steak & Cheese sandwich on a toasted wheat bread with all the Subway vegetables. I like it with sweet onion sauce, southwest Chipotle and finished with a dash of pepper. My husband prefers the Subway club which includes roast beef and turkey breast.

A big, warm hello to my fellow weekenders! Hubby's club was part of the logistics committee during the 111th Philippine Independence Day Celebration. We went to the venue Al Nasr Leisureland as early as 5 a.m. to help decorate and prepare the place. Here is my son trying to take the center stage just before the proper ceremonies start.

Saturday, we went for a little shopping for summer toys. The chlorinated water of the swimming pool has been drying up our eyes so we decided to buy goggles and a body board for Andreas.

Soo good to be back on my favorite meme. Today i will share you the world's largest performing water feature, the Dubai Fountain. We got the chance to see its beauty last weekend when we visited the 30-acre Burj Dubai Lake. The fountain is composed of two arcs and five circles. It performs to the tune of Arabic and classical western music.

In full sprout, there is 83,000 litres of water in the air. The fountain is more than 275 meters in length - equivalent of two football pitches. Dubai Fountain performs daily from 6 in the evening 'till midnight.
