Advantages Of Buying A Used Car

Posted by Kero at Wednesday, December 21, 2011 0 sweets for Kero
With the frail economy, more and more people are looking for ways to stretch their money. Hence, buying a used car is now more popular than ever. Hubby and I were talking over dinner that since our SUV will turn 5 years old October next year, we will have to move one to a newer model and hopefully, one that we can use for off-road trips.

We are fully aware that 4x4 are quiet expensive but maybe it will not break our bank account if we consider buying a used car. We have been reading used car reviews lately and convinced that for a cheaper amount, we will be able to get the same car. Apart from the affordability pull and lower cost of insurance, we learned that there is a program called "Certified Pre-owned." Cars belonging to this category undergo rigorous inspection and repair (if needed). Also, they generally fall under the manufacturer's warranty. CPO cars maybe of slightly higher value but any buyer will have better peace of mind.

Perhaps we will miss the smell of a new car but hey we have experience that once. Now we are looking to enhance our expatriate life. We want to start with off-roading adventures on weekends and some outdoor camping trips. My son would really like that! Therefore, will be checking new car deals frequently in the coming months.

Bellagala For Everything Your Wedding Needs

Posted by Kero at Tuesday, December 20, 2011 0 sweets for Kero
My head is still hurting from too much champagne. ((^_^))

We attended an intimate engagement celebration last night for M and G. It was a small gathering at the rooftop Shangri La Hotel with only eight of their closest friends invited. G is going to be June bride and though the engagement announcement party was by-invitation only, their upcoming wedding is going to be huge. They both have big families and both sides are willing to help out and make it one big, grand celebration.

In between champagne and caviar canapes, we asked G how come she looks very calm and composed. They both work in two separate international companies so we know there will be plenty of guests. With only six months to prepare, she looks far from worrying over the preparation. Then G shared that her cousin recommended the popular wedding vendor, Bellagala. It is the only one in the United States to offer complete wedding services. Apparently, G spilled she has exchange calls and emails with them it seems she bought their complete service for her sunset beach wedding! She has chosen her wedding planner and is now taking care of every little detail. From motif, venue, catering, wedding cake, wedding favors, the wedding entourage gowns, bridal hair and makeup, everything you can imagine. All she ever worries now is finding that perfect wedding gown. We all went oohh in delight!

For those interested and engaged, Bellagala has over 10 years of experience in wedding business. They have been nominated last year as one of the country's Best Wedding Vendor. G learned about the company when her cousin sent her own garden wedding photos. G was foremost impressed with their digital wedding photography service. But what pushed her further is that Bellagala donates a portion of their profit every year to Sweet Children's orphanage fund in India. It's like hitting two birds with one stone: she gets her very best special day and at the same time, the couple is able to help those children in need.

Stocking Filler: Decorative Quilt

Posted by Kero at Sunday, December 18, 2011 0 sweets for Kero
I found this beautiful decorative quilt at Souk Madinat yesterday. It's a wonderful gift for the ladies of the house. But I think even more perfect as family giveaways. You can add to embroider your family initials and it's a treasured gift that will pass on for many years to come.

I also wish to take this opportunity to thank Tracy for the thoughtful Christmas card she sent us from New York complete with Christmas stamps. =)

Fellow postcard collector, Mirek sent me this beautiful card showing the Tatra Mountains in Poland. They are the highest part of the Carpathian mountain range, and for centuries they were Poland’s natural border with Slovakia.

Tatry, my third postcard from Poland.
.
It is very popular with tourists as one will find stunning views and pristine nature as well as the best skiing in winter and hiking, rock climbing, cave exploration, cycling, paragliding, etc. through the rest of the year.

Red Leather Sofa For A Trendy, Festive Home

Posted by Kero at Sunday, December 11, 2011 0 sweets for Kero
Do you want the quickest way to make your home ready for the holidays? Start with the basic red-hot leather sofa.

Few uses red in interior design. Red is a flaming color which gets noticed. It is for the proud and brave. But a few also know that it will also save you money since you don't have to buy so much festive decorations. You no longer need to stress yourself with bringing in a giant Christmas tree to make a focal point in the room because your red leather sofa is the focal point.

How then do you decorate around it? The trick is to tone down everything else.

An exclusive leather sofa from SCS

1.Your living room walls should not compete with your sofa. Paint it in light neutral color.

2. Enhance your leather sofa with a plush white rag or throw a pillow with holiday decor.

3. If you wish to create a modern feel, opt for glass as statement pieces. Glass top on end tables, glass vase, an entertainment system covered in glass.

4. Balance everything. Have  a red frame or hang Christmas stocking or red curtain on your neutral walls.

5. Don't forget the fresh flowers on your vase. Your living room should stand out not blend in.

Shopping For Sunglasses

Posted by Kero at Wednesday, November 23, 2011 0 sweets for Kero

Black Friday is fast approaching and on top of my must-buy list is a pair of sunglasses. I broke my last pair of aviator two months ago - probably from too much travel and heat temperature. It's taking me awhile to find the right pair because I like to take my time and choose wisely. I am also sort of picky on frames. While some ladies go gaga with an expensive bag, I on the other hand, cherish eye wear. It's an accessory I absolutely cannot live without.

Even on a bad hair-day and I must go out to face the world, I just put on a huge pair and my spirit seems to soar. As fashion queen Victoria Beckham said, "Sunglasses hide a multitude of sins." And I thorougly agree. Even if you didn't sleep well last night or you don't have the time to put on mascara - or your false lashes for that matter, you still look like a Hollywood star with the proper, exquisite frame.

I found this website called Glasses.com where I enjoyed browsing their stylish collection of women's sunglasses. But before I go further to add on my shopping cart, let me just share you some tips on how to buy a pair of sunglasses:

1. A good pair should block 98% of ultra violet light to avoid any eye ailment. After all, the ultimate purpose of sunglasses is to protect our eyes.

2. Choose polarized lenses as they permit only vertical light rays to pass through them, not horizontal, and thus they reduce glare.

3. Are you going to wear it everyday like I do in this perennially sunny city? Make sure you are comfortable on the colors of the glass before parting with your cash. Most sunglasses have grey lenses because grey is a neutral color hence making it comfortable for eyes. While red, brown, and yellow can be trendy at times, they can distort color.

4. While a stylish frame makes for the over-all impact of a sunglasses, make sure it is also durable and lightweight - especially if you intend to stay hours and hours lounging on the sunbed or playing golf.

I am currently looking on Glasses.com for a wrap-around model which I think are quiet neat on the face. They also provide thorough glare and dust protection as it eliminates them from creeping in around the lenses.

Celebrate and Share The Spirit of Christmas

Posted by Kero at Thursday, November 17, 2011 1 sweets for Kero
It’s still over a month before the blessed day but we can already feel the chill and the thrill of Christmas all around us. Most might have already prepared their Christmas shopping list. For some perhaps - their wish list. In malls, streets, and restaurants, you’ll see dangling Christmas lights, wall decors, Santa Claus figurines – and most especially, Christmas trees of all sizes. So how about your house? Is the tree up yet?

In some places, freshly cut pine trees are available but if it’s impossible to find one in your area, you can always get an artificial Christmas tree from one of those enormous garden shops like Hayes Garden World. They offer gorgeous feel-real trees and pre-lit LED trees. Christmas Trees at Hayes Garden World come in a variety of selection and sizes – from 3 feet to a gigantic 12 feet.

Having a hard time choosing which tree? Is a fir tree better or a Bayberry Garland? You can always check out Christmas Trees on BBC for some ideas. You can bring your whole family to a garden center so everyone can have their vote when choosing your would-be Christmas tree at home.

Aside from getting you own Christmas tree for your home, another way to spread the spirit of Christmas is to share your blessings. You can visit orphanages and evacuation centers to decorate and spread cheer by giving small tokens and free snacks however simple it may be. Another way is to join the Trees for Troops project. You can join by SMS donation or Mobile Fan Club. Simply Text TREE to 50555 to make a $10 mobile donation OR Text SPIRIT to 50555 to join Mobile Fan Club. Their aim is to deliver Christmas trees to 60+ military bases in the United States and overseas.

I Bought a Tree...and a Reindeer

Posted by Kero at Thursday, November 10, 2011 0 sweets for Kero
I've been very busy with work for the past weeks. By the time the holiday came, I was down with flu but I still had deadlines to beat. Hubby took care of Little C but the boy just wanted to go back to school. He was bored with home routine that at one time he kept on drawing, and coloring hoping that we will say the magic words: you will go to school tomorrow. So I learned something valuable: on his next school vacation, we have to bring him somewhere.

Anyway, to make up to my boys, I received payment from my writing tasks so I bought our first Christmas tree. And a reindeer lol! It looked so forlorn at Daiso Store where they packed my tree so i asked the staff to wrap the deer as well lol!

I bought baubles, ornaments, and and Christmas lights as well. I'm not yet done decorating though but when Little C arrived from school, he was completely smitten!

We Are Going 70s

Posted by Kero at Thursday, October 27, 2011 0 sweets for Kero
Whew! The Halloween Costume Party invitations are pouring in. The latest one to arrive is from Hubby's scuba diving club. And they are giving a grand prize of one night stay at a splendid 5-star hotel to the couple in best costume.

I'd like to win of course. I need a weekend getaway to unwind. But Hubby just don't understand the fuss about the costumes. I hope that is going to change this year. I am not going to let him be himself for a change lol! He's been doing that for years - every Halloween party - so come on! I am not going to be the only one theatrical next week.

Last night after supper, I tried to pull off my convincing powers and managed to talk to him about his costume. He dreads the topic. Always do.  But I steered the conversation to his birth year the 70s. Think 70s stye fancy dress, Afro wig, flared trousers, groovy disco, the heavy rockers KIss, or simply be a crazy hippy guy. He thought  for awhile and when I was about to faint for waiting his answer, he agreed. I breathed out a long sigh of satisfaction and danced the footy jig hehehe.

So here I am looking online for some accessories and costume inspiration. I found two costumes and will let him choose later tonight. Have a look:

A groovy disco dancer costume.

Or 70s funky colored suit complete with platform shoes, yeehaa!

As for me, I hope looking for sexy costumes would be easy. I want something shiny inspired by the Dancing Queen.

Win Free Holiday Cards From Shutterfly: 3 Winners, 25 Cards Each

Posted by Kero at Sunday, October 23, 2011 23 sweets for Kero
Ho! Ho! Ho! Good cheer to all my readers!!

Oh yes, I am in the holiday mood here because I am currently designing our family greeting cards. We are mailing 50 Christmas cards to families, friends, and colleagues by the end of this month . But they are not just simply generic holiday cards that you can buy from the bookstore. Ours are personalized, with photos and family monogram from the world's best loved personal publishing site, Shutterfly.

This is my first time to create with Shutterfly and I am amazed how quick and easy the process was. First, I uploaded selected family photos. Then I chose a template from their vast photo Christmas cards. I filled in the details - our family name and family members. I cropped the photos then drag and drop them. It didn't take a minute to come up with this:

Really, the hardest part was choosing which design because all their holiday cards are absolutely elegant and stylish. I am thinking that since we are sending a bunch of greeting cards, why not make a special design for each group of people? I'll choose another template for family, another for friends, another for office mates, and maybe I might even order ahead some thank you cards because my Husband is big on this. Yes, Shutterfly not only provides greeting cards but also cards for all occasions, photo books, calendars, print, personalized home decor (i.e. blankets, eco-bag), and just about any cutesy you can imagine and personalize.

Now, you too can experience this good cheer from Shutterfly. As part of Shutterfly 2011 Holiday promotion, I am giving away 25 Christmas photo cards to lucky three readers.

Here's how you can win:

1. Subscribe to my blogs Coffee Pearls, and A View and Kero's Celebration via email. Only confirmed subscription will be entered the draw.

2. Optional: If you G+1 this post, I will add another point to your entry.

3. Leave the email you used to subscribe in the comment below and inform you are joining the Shutterfly 2011 Holiday Promotion.

This contest runs until Monday, October 31, 2011. Winners will be notified via email on November 1, 2011.

Good luck!

*In exchange for this blog post, I received 50 free holiday greeting cards with free shipping from Shutterfly.
