Lacoste Porcelain Polo Shirt

Posted by Kero at Sunday, October 31, 2010
Weeee I got my lessons in French fashion luxury! Comite Colbert, an association of French luxury brands, is holding the Middle East's first ever Colbert Festival at The Dubai Mall. Twenty-nine luxury houses showcase their "objects of desire" from among their most precious creations.

These objects include masterpieces that have made history, signature creations and exclusive new or exceptional pieces, all of them eloquent illustrations of French style.

For my first feature, I am sharing from the house of Lacoste. Rene Lacoste, one of the "Muskeeters" of French tennis fame, would never give up. As a result, he won some terrific matches and earned himslef a nickname: Crocodile.

He made the crocodile his mascot and had it embroidered over hi heart on the lapels of his blazer. Later It would serve as the logo on the famous knit polo shirs that have borne his name since 1933. Lacoste and 1212 polo-shirt have acquired cult status, attracting interests of artists worldwide.

The Chinese artist Li Xiaofeng, whose offbeat approach to fashion involves creating garments fro original materials such as wood, marble, or glass, was commisioned to come up with his own version of the famous Lacoste shirt.
Li Xiaofeng used pieces of porcelain dating to the Ming Dynasty.
