If one can save up on anything while on a holiday to Italy, it is by not buying bottled drinking water. From Rome to Milan, we relied on their famous public drinking fountains (and no ill effects if you're worried about safety).

I always drank the water from both fountains and ordinary taps and never suffered from it!
